You are receiving this email because you are currently forwarding your UConnVM mail to another service provider (AOL, SBC) or another system (UConn Exchange).
UITS suspects that we might be able to reduce some of the SPAM that you are receiving if you turn off email forwarding from UConnVM. Much of the SPAM that comes into the University is delivered to addresses of the form userid@UCONNVM.UCONN.EDU. The reason is that many of the UCONNVM userids were harvested by "spammers" years ago, when the majority of UConn employees and students were using email under UCONNVM.
When you were migrated to the UITS central Exchange services, your UConnVM email forward was set to continue to deliver any email addressed to userid@UCONNVM.UCONN.EDU to Exchange (no disruption in service). In addition to this forward, your personal name address was set to point to Exchange. Your personal name address is the preferred address to use, no longer your UConnVM email address.
If you are not aware of having been issued an UConnVM account or you feel as though mail delivery to this account is no longer valid, then we will help you turn this forward off. Again, this will hopefully reduce your SPAM delivery.
To turn OFF your email forwarding from your UConnVM email account please follow the steps outlined below: open your Exchange email and address a message in the following manner.
Step One: Open your Exchange mail interface Step Two: Create a "NEW" message Step Three: In the To... field type, LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UCONN.EDU Step Four: In the body of the message type, SIGNOFF VM_FORWARDING Step Five: Click on SEND
Or you can click on the following link and repeat the steps outlined above. mailto:LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UCONN.EDU?body=SIGNOFF%20VM_FORWARDING
When you have successfully removed your email forwarding, you will receive two email confirmations.
1) States that you've been removed from this list
2) States your mail forward has been successfully deleted.
If you experience any difficulties or have any questions about this process, please feel free to contact our Help Center at (860) 486-HELP or email HELPCENTER@Uconn.edu.
Thank you.
